Happy Tuesday!

Today’s Meeting

At today’s meeting, Bill Belcher will lead us in the Flag Salute, and Gary Trow will offer us the invocation. Bill Belcher will make a second appearance, when he gives us a Craft Talk.

Last Week’s Meeting

At last week’s meeting, the torch — uh, the baton — wait, no — the Charter! was passed from Past Prez John Kearney to current Prez George Benz, apparently skipping reign as it sat in Kearney’s garage. It will hang in a place of honor until the reign of President Mark Spellman around this same time next year.

Mike Barber will be one of the celebrity dancers at the Oxnard Salsa Festival this year. The Festival runs the weekend of July 26-27, but Mike will be hosting a fundraiser this Sunday, July 20 at the Waterside Restaurant and Wine Bar (Channel Islands Harbor) from 4-7 p.m. Mike’s fundraiser will feature food, wine and beer, along with live and silent auctions. Proceeds will support Mike in the Festival, which in turn supports Santa to the Sea. Get tickets here.

Our annual Golf Tournament continues to shape up. Co-Chairs Tim Laubacher and Gary Trow are hard at work and have lots of opportunities for sponsors, volunteers and golfers! See either of them for more information. The tourney is slated for September 5.

Last Week’s Speaker

Our speaker last week was Rotarian Edwin Velarde. Ed is a much-involved Rotarian, having served a President of the Rotary Club of Westlake Village (2012-2013), and coming to us last week on behalf of the District 5240 Foundation Fundraiser, the Epic Challenge, to raise money for Polio Plus. The challenge will take place as part of festivities for the District Conference this year in Monterey.

The Conference comes to Monterey October 3-5, and the EPiC Challenge events will book-end the conference. On Friday, October 3, the individual or team 200K will take place, as riders make their way from the vineyards of Paso Robles to the coast of Monterey. The estimated 200 riders will pass through some of the most beautiful areas of California, stopping for lunch in King City, and aiming to arrive in Monterey by 5:00 p.m. Not quite so adventurous? Then sign-up for the Family Poker Bike/Walk at Fisherman’s Wharf in Monterey on Sunday, October 5. That event will cover less territory, but promises to be just as much fun, as participants stop at poker stations along the way to collect the winning hand!

Teams are forming around the district for those interested in training to ride a leg of the 200K, including one at our club (See John Clay, Jr.). Participation counts toward our district foundation donation, and will also be lots of fun! See epic-challenge.org for more information!
