Happy Tuesday Oxnard Rotary!
Today’s Meeting
Your Bulletin Editor will lead the club in the salute to our flag, while John Kearney is scheduled to offer the invocation. Our speaker today will be Congresswoman Julia Brownley. Congresswoman Brownley has been the United States Representative for California’s 26th Congressional District since 2013, having previously served in the State Assembly from 2006 - 2012.
Last Week’s Meeting
We were joined last week by six very impressive young women, who were sponsored by the Club to attend RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Academy) last month in Ojai. Part of a group of several hundred high school boys and girls, our group attended workshops on leadership, participated in team bonding and other fun activities, and learned skills that will serve them not only in Interact, but other future endeavors. We look forward to sending more of our Interact students in future years!
Final Teacher Recognition
On May 1, the Club bestowed our final teacher recognition basket upon Mrs. Rosslyn Nikula, a first grade teacher at Rio Del Mar Elementary School. Ms. Nikula is involved with the School Site Council, had conducted after-school interventions and creates new and exciting lessons for her students. Ms. Nikula stresses technology, critical thinking, inquiry and project-based learning, among other things. She was noted as being not only an excellent teacher, but also respected and admired among her peers, and kind and loving to her students. Congratulations to Ms. Nikula!!
Our teacher recognition program will begin again next year, honoring the 2014-2015 teachers.
