Hello Rotarians and Happy Tuesday! Only 8 days until Christmas, are you ready?!?!
Today’s Meeting
Today we look forward to Phyllis Throckmorton leading us in the Pledge of Allegiance, and to our invocation by Norm Bernstein.
Last Week’s Meeting
We were pleased last week to welcome two visiting Rotarians, Guests Cesi Figueroa and Juan Soto. (Bulletin Editor’s apologies for misspelling of names!)
George Benz shared a with us some of the highlights of his trip to Kenya to visit the water well projects, which included a story about a Mexican feast, a lion and other wild beasts. He promised us more information later, and we look forward to a program featuring George and his trip soon. Welcome Home George!!
Thanks to Patrick Mullin, John McDougal, Tim Laubacher and our Interact kids for carrying our banner in the Oxnard Christmas parade, in spite of the elements. Way to represent!!
Another successful Santa to the Sea, thanks to the hard work of Mike Barber and his devoted staff and volunteer army! This event was the biggest yet and saw an increase in runners, donations and scholarship award opportunities . . . Congratulations Mike!
Have You Voted? Last week we were presented with our a slate of candidates for the 2014/2015 Rotary Year . . . results to be announced soon, but your bulletin editor predicts a certain outcome!
Way to Say Yes!
Phyllis presented a request from a Rotary Club in Switzerland that is looking for a host home for a vocational exchange student who is coming in January for an internship with Haas Automation. It took no more than a 2 minute report for Jane Lax to volunteer her home and car . . . true Rotary spirit at work! The student will be here from January 11 to February 7 and we hope to see him at a meeting or two. Thanks to Jane!!
Priceless Goodies
Last week we had a traditional bake sale and auction of delicious baked goods . . . we raised a lot of money for the club and had a good time doing it too! Your bulletin editor was more than pleased with her purchase and so was her family!!
Say It Ain’t So!
Is it possible that this is our last meeting of the year???? Yes, it is not only possible it is actual!! We are DARK next Tuesday, December 24 and the following Tuesday, December 31.
But don’t let the Rotary spirit leave you just because we can’t meet. Here’s a “Dark Day Challenge” for you all: find a simple act of Service Above Self to do each of those days and let’s share about it at our first meeting in the New Year. Tell us what you did, or send me a picture to post! Let’s get the new year started off on the Rotary foot!
Wishing you and yours a New Year filled with peace and joy. Happy Holidays!
