Last Week’s Meeting

Dick Regnier, along with finishing up his Happy Dollar donation from last week with $25, gave us an update on Tom McGrath. Dick’s visit to Tom was to present him with his 3-star pin and Paul Harris fellow, and Dick also gave Tom a video from our demotion dinner where Tom’s PH fellow was presented. Tom has lost weight and is fighting the good fight. Dick suggested that in addition to keeping Tom and family in our prayers and thoughts, that we send cards and notes. A Rotary group card will be circulated, and individuals are encouraged to do the same.

Getting to know . . . Gary Davis, who on school breaks during college served as a merchant marine. Who knew?

Our speaker last week was Dave Grau from the Ventura County Taxpayers Association. Mr. Grau spoke briefly about the County’s unfunded pension liability, but focused most of his comments on the prospective contract between the City of Oxnard and Ventura Regional Sanitation District, which would result in Oxnard sending more of it’s solid waste to the Toland Road landfill operated by VRSD. The position of the VCTA is that the contract would result in higher rates for residents, and price instability. The night of our meeting the issue came before the Oxnard City Council, and the contract was approved.
