Welcome Rotarians

At our meeting today, Dick Regnier will lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance, and our invocation will be conducted by Bob England.

Our program today will be our very own Dave Grau, a member of the board of the Ventura County Taxpayers Association (VCTA). The mission of VCTA is to advocate for efficient and effective local government, and to investigate and take positions on issues having significant fiscal impact on Ventura County taxpayers. To accomplish this mission, VCTA meets directly with local elected and appointed officials, comments at local public hearings on issues of concern to local taxpayers, publishes a regular newsletter, and provides commentary to local media.

Happy International Older Persons Day!

In December 1990, the United Nations General Assembly designated October 1 as the International Day of Older Persons. The theme of the 2013 United Nations commemoration, “The future we want: what older persons are saying” has been chosen to draw attention to the efforts of older persons, civil society organizations, United Nations organizations and Member States to place the issue of aging on the international development agenda. According to the U.N, by the yea 2050, the number of older persons will be twice the number of children in developed countries, and the number of older persons in developing countries is expected to double.

Fun facts of the day . . . According to the social security regulations, you reach “old age” at 65 . . .In 1940, the life expectancy of a 65-year-old was almost 14 years; today it is more than 20 years.
