Welcome Rotarians

At our meeting today, Billie Jo Rodriguez will lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance, and our invocation will be conducted by John Clay, Sr.

Our speaker today is Edwin Tingstrom, author of “Courage and Valor, Above and Beyond.” Mr. Tingstrom is a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). He enjoys giving lectures in history and military service at local high schools and colleges, as well as serving as a docent at the VFW museum, which houses a collection of vintage poster art and war memorabilia dating back to the turn of the twentieth century. “Courage and Valor” is his first book, which tells the stories of 88 African-American Medal of Honor recipients.

Happy Constitution and Citizenship Day!

Constitution Day and Citizenship Day is an American federal observance that commemorates the adoption of the Constitution of the United States and those who have become United States citizens. This day is observed each year on September 17, which is the day the U.S. Constitutional Convention signed the Constitution in 1787. Constitution Day was first recognized by schools in Iowa in 1911. By 1940, President Roosevelt named “I am an American Day” an official day, and Congress designated the celebration as the third Sunday in May. In 1952, Congress changed the name from “I am an American Day” to “Citizenship Day” and moved it’s observation to September 17.

Happy Dollar donation opportunity: how many signers were there to the Constitution?
