Demotion Dinner
Our farewell to President John Kearney has been set for June 18 at the Tower Club! The planning committee will welcome volunteers . . . see Cris or Kathy Leahy for more information, or to lend a hand.
True Service Above Self
As if Dick Regnier and John Clay Jr. traveling to India for NID wasn’t enough of a demonstration of service above self, Jr. took it one step further when a fellow Rotarian lost her passport and had to stay back in India several days. The gallant Jr. extended his trip in India so that she would not be unaccompanied in the strange place, and to assist in navigating the bureaucratic nightmare that is India. His graciousness and selflessness did not go unnoticed, and at the NID reunion trip last week, he was recognized with a Paul Harris fellow. Way to go, John!
Welcome Tagg Baker!
We were pleased to induct Tagg Baker last week as our newest member! Tagg is with TWIW Insurance Services, and is a third generation Rotarian. Joining us for his induction was his father, a member of the Rotary Club of Ojai, and former president of the Rotary Club of Century City. Welcome Tagg!
Last Week’s Speaker
Our speaker last week was Sgt. Lorenzo Perez of the California State Military Reserve. Sgt. Perez has served his country in active military service for 29 years. Now retired from active military service, Sgt. Perez serves full-time in the CSMR.
The CSMR is part of the state national guard, one of 21 states that have an active state guard service. The CSMR augments the national guard, and provides support when they are deployed.
The CSMR is an all-volunteer force, citizens who have a calling to volunteer and serve their country. Some have prior military service, but many do not. The volunteers serve for their love of country and for service. There are presently 1100 members, but the Governor would like to see 3000 to serve, particularly in emergency management.
Extra Bonus At the Meeting
Those that made it to our meeting last week were treated to surprise visit from Daffy Duck. For those that missed it, ask Dick Regnier to give you a summary of his visit!
