Last Week’s Meeting
Our program was presented by Cindy Keitel, Community Relations Director at California Lutheran University. Cindy worked for 20 years in marketing and and communications for the healthcare industry, serving as associate vice president and director of Health and Wellness for Health Net. Cindy holds an MBA from CLU, and has served in leadership positions for the American Heart Association for 15 years. In 2006, she was honored as the organization’s Volunteer of the Year.
Cindy spoke to us about healthy living. She had nine tips for kids (but these sound like good advice for the more mature among us, as well):
1. Food is fun
2. Breakfast is a very important meal
3. Eat lots of different foods every day, variety is the recipe for health
4. Gimme five: Eat fruits and vegetables with each meal and as tasty snacks
5. Fat facts: Too much fat is not good for your health
6. Snack attack! Choose wisely and eat a variety of snacks
7. Quench your thirst with water. Drink plenty of liquids
8. Care for those teeth! Brush your teeth at least twice a day
9. Get moving! Be active every day
This Week’s Meeting
Today we will hear readings by student essay winners, and will be joined by Shannon Coletti, Principal at Rose Ave. School.
This Day in History
On this day in 2005, Karol Jozef Wojtyl died in Italy. Karol Woijtyl was born in Poland in 1920, and after high school, studied philosophy and literature, and performed in a theater group. When the university in Krakow where Karol studied was closed under the Nazi occupation in 1941, Karol went to work in a quarry, and later in a chemical factory. By the time he was 21, Karol was the only surviving member of his family.
Karol had a calling in life and rose to the top of his field. He travelled around the world, and was beloved by many for his kindness, and for building bridges with people all over the world. Over two million people crowded the city where Karol was buried to pay respects when he died. Karol was more famously known as Pope John Paul II.
