News and Notes for February 26, 2013

Meetings, Past and Future - What do you call a meeting with no agenda, no speaker, and a fart story? I don’t know either, but that pretty much covers it from last week. On a lighter notes, this week’s meeting has us scheduled to hear from California Professional Fiduciary Patricia Keefer.

Friendraiser - John Puglise reminds us to mark our calendars for this Thursday, February 28, at 5:00 p.m. for a Friendraiser at the Rio School District Offices, 2500 Vineyard Avenue. The event will feature food, beverage, music and art, along with the opportunity to meet some of the more than 500 current and potential partners from business and other organizations.

Basketball Tourney - President John Kearney, Mike Barber, Rob Foster and others shared stories with us of present and past basketball tournaments, as the girls tourney took place this last weekend. The 64th annual boys tourney takes place Saturday and Sunday, March 2 and 3. Rotarians are encouraged to sign up for a game to judge the sportsmanship of the participants. Sign up by clicking here.

Traveling Rotarians - Keep John Clay, Jr. and Dick & Georgie Regnier in your thoughts as they are travelling to India at this time as part of Rotary’s ongoing mission to eradicate polio. We look forward to hearing all about the trip on their return!

This Day in History . . . in 1993, a bomb exploded in the parking garage beneath the World Trade Center in New York City , killing 6 people and injuring 1,000 . . . In 1919, the Grand Canyon was established as a National Park, and on the same day 10 years later, the Grand Tetons became the newest National Park.

Enjoy!! Today is National Pistachio Day!!
