News & Notes: February 19, 2013

We had a “lovely” meeting last week in honor of St. Valentine’s Day!! Playing host to many of our own Valentines, we feasted on a plated, four-course meal, topped off by a beautiful, heart-shaped dessert for two. Many thanks to Patrick Mullin for organizing this special lunch meeting, and to the staff that worked hard to make our day so special!!

Among the honored Valentines last week . . Andrew VanConas, Bonnie Davis, Bridget Partida, Cheryl Mullin, Patti Givvs, Angie Moreno, Tilford Jackson, Denise Clay, Dale Belcher, Sandy Robertson, Judy Fairchild and Jackie McDougal . . . apologies from your Bulletin Editor if I missed your special guest.

Following the meeting, many Rotarians joined in the recognition for teacher honoree Monica Heaton, a First Grade Teacher at Driffill Elementary School. Joining President John Kearney were George Benze, Gary Davis, Mark Spellman, Jeff Chancer, Lalaine Braime, Phyllis Throckmorton, Norm Bernstein, Rob Foster and John Clay, Sr. Ms. Heaton, a 16-year teacher at Driffill, was honored for her service as PTA, and for the respect she earns from her colleagues, parents and students.

Watch for your opportunity to join in putting together the basket for our upcoming teacher recognitions . . . we are doing two in March, the team leaders for those to be John Clay, Sr. and Eddie Moreno.

On this Day in History . . . . in 1847, the first rescuers reach surviving members of the Donner Party, a group of California-bound emigrants stranded by snow in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Of the original 89 members in the party, only 45 reached California.
