The Rotary Club of Oxnard launched its 2013 program to recognize outstanding teachers in the Oxnard School District, the Oxnard U
nion High School District, and the Rio School District. For the third year, the Rotary Club provides a gift basket and plaque of recognition for their outstanding teaching and service to students, parents, and to their school. In partnership with the Ventura County Schools Federal Credit Union, the recognition also includes a monetary award for the teacher to help
cover the many out-of-pocket expenses teachers incur. The Teacher Recognition Program continues the efforts of Rotary to thank those in the community who give outstanding Service Above Self, the motto of Rotary International.
On January 22nd, the Rotary Club of Oxnard bestowed this honor on Ms. Maria Aldaba, a First Grade teacher at Marina West Elementary School for several years and currently teaching a First Grade bilingual class. Principal Anna Thomas nominated Maria Aldaba for this special recognition, noting the teacher’s dedication and focus on improving student achievement. Ms. Thomas also stated, “Maria strives to learn and grow herself and currently volunteers on the school’s PTA as the treasurer.
