Dear fellow Rotarian:
I have been involved with the last two STEPS Symposiums (Symposium To Eliminate Poverty Sustainably (STEPS) at UC Santa Barbara) and have seen the remarkable synergy of the keynote speakers, presenters, exhibitors, Rotarians from around the district, and representatives from other non-profit organizations attending this wonderful event – what happens at STEPS goes with you and enriches your club and it’s projects!
This event is FREE to members.
Online registration for our next STEPS (Steps to Eliminate Poverty Sustainably) Symposium, Saturday, January 26th 2013 is now open!! Don’t miss out – the conference gets better & better!
Visit the STEPS website for details and video for clubs at www.rotarystepsonpoverty.org
The STEPS Symposium mission is to inform and inspire the Rotarians of District 5240 by providing opportunities to hear accomplished keynote speakers, attend informative breakout sessions and network with other Rotarians and organizations around the world that specialize in sustainable poverty eradication….
Our ultimate purpose is to assist our clubs with aligning current club projects with the goals of Rotary International’s Future Vision – resulting in sustainable community project development.
Our Keynote Speakers include:
Barry Rassin: President and CEO of Doctors Hospital Health System in Nassau, Bahamas. In 2006/2008, Barry served Rotary International as a Director for Zones 33 and 34. Since the tragic earthquake that took place in Haiti in January 2010, he served as a TRF Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund Account Holder. He will talk about the challenges and successes in addressing Haiti’s recovery and achieving sustainable development in the future from his unique perspective.
Roger Thurow: Senior Fellow, The Chicago Council on Global Affairs; Fellow, ONE Campaign, and author. In May 2012, Thurow published his second book, The Last Hunger Season: A Year in an African Farm Community on the Brink of Change. He wrote How Africa Can Feed Itself And The World published recently in the Rotarian magazine. Roger will talk about the importance of agricultural development for Africa’s small scale farmers and the impact it will have on Africa and world hunger in the future. (Signed books will be available!)
Breakout sessions include:
- Basic Education and Literacy
- Disease Prevention & Treatment
- Economic & Community Development
- Maternal & Child Health
- Peace & Conflict Resolution
- Water & Sanitation
- Future Vision: Panel Q&A for Success
Please visit our website www.rotarystepsonpoverty.org for the keynote speaker bios and breakout session descriptions and presenters. There are registration links on the STEPS website and the District 5240 website www.rotarydistrict5240.org.
STEPS is only a few short weeks away, so we want everyone to have an opportunity to select their breakout sessions while they can. If you wait until the day of the conference to register, you will be limited to the breakout sessions where there is still room. Also pre-registration is required to order a gourmet bagged lunch… there will be some alternative lunch accommodations at UCSB, but they can’t serve the bulk of attendees, so we recommend pre-ordering a bagged lunch.
Thanks for your attention and we hope to see you there!
