Hello Rotarians!!

Happy National . . . well, take your pick: Fun at Work Day, Kazoo Day or Blueberry Pancake Day. My office may get a combo deal, and have fun by playing kazoos and eating pancakes!!

Today’s Meeting

Today, the pledge of allegiance will be led by Gabe Soumakian, and the Invocation will be offered by Mark Spellman. Our speaker today is Jake Lacayo, a Senior Clinical Trial specialist at Amgen.

Last Week’s Meeting

Our guests last week included Ryle, John, Jessica and Eddie, the Rotary Basketball Tournament team from the City of Oxnard. Speaking of which . . . lots of opportunities to help make this longstanding and legendary tournament a success. Sponsorship and volunteer opportunities abound. See Past President Kearney or Steve Lee for more info, along with additional information coming soon to the website.

Our speaker last week presented information about Covered California, California’s moniker for Obamacare (or more legally referred to as the Affordable Care Act). Covered California will help to insure the more than 57,000 uninsured in Ventura County. Get more information at Covered California.

Calling all Cyclists!! See John Clay Jr., who is said to be organizing a team to participate in the Camarillo Rotary Ride for Service Above Self, Saturday, April 12. Proceeds benefit the Turning Point Foundation and other local charities.

Teacher Recognition

Oxnard Rotarians joined in presenting our very first teacher recognition basket for this year to Josh Steiner, a teacher at Rio Vista Middle School. Mr. Steiner begins each day teaching a study skills class to students in need of extra support and also serves as the school’s Athletic Coordinator. Mr. Steiner is a caring and positive teacher, and always has that “can do” attitude. Mr. Steiner is committed to helping his students improve themselves both in the class and on the playing field.
