Hello Rotarians!
October is half-way done, Fall is in the air, and we are in the season of Trick-or-Treat, Pumpkin Pie and Fall blessings. It is that time of year that sports fans dream of, where you can turn on the TV and watch football, baseball playoffs and hockey, sometimes all in one night. More Americans report Fall to be their favorite season, outranking Summer in some polls by 20%, and Winter predictably takes a beat-down, thanks to our friends that live in areas where they don’t enjoy our mild Winter weather. What’s your favorite season and why?
Today’s Meeting
Today’s meeting is offsite!! Remember to appropriately adjust your departure time for our meeting today, to make it down to the Channel Islands Maritime Museum for our quarterly offsite meeting! Kick-off time will be normal, and after lunch we will have an opportunity to tour the museum. Peter Higgins is scheduled to give the Pledge of Allegiance, and Cesar Morales is scheduled to lead us in the invocation. See you there!
Last Week’s Meeting
Thanks to Dr. Steven Lee for leading the flag salute and Lalaine Bray for delivering the invocation.
John Clay, Jr. helped kickoff the District Conference earlier this month, riding 133 miles on his bike in 100 degree temperatures as part of the EPiC Challenge to fight polio. John’s assistant at Crowell Weedon, Marcy McTernan, rode 44 miles. They were part of efforts that raised $42,000 for Polio Plus! Way to go John!!
We were visited last week by Pacific High School Interact Faculty Advisor, Jaimene Nichols. Jaimene updated us on this new, and burgeoning, club at Pacifica. And as the old adage goes, what’s the quickest way to someone’s heart? Grandpa Norm knows: he brings lunch to the students every Wednesday.
Our program last week focused on membership, and President George presented us the results of the Past Presidents’ pow-wow at Patrick Mullin’s home. We are in good company with many Rotary Clubs, in that we are constantly looking to make our club vibrant by adding new members, and keeping ourselves engaged! Members of Rotary are winners and we need winners.
HAVE YOU BROUGHT SOMEWONE TO LUNCH LATELY?
