Latest Teacher Recognition Another Success

Our club honored another special teacher last Tuesday, when member of the club presented a basket filled with teacher goodies to Teresa Ivey, a third-year teacher at Rio Real School in El Rio. Ms. Ivey has embraced a 21st Century, skill-based education for her students, which brings project-based learning into her classroom. This year, Ms. Ivey has partnered with the Monterey Bay Aquarium to participate in a project on the reduction of plastic pollutions in our oceans, and the project will culminate when Ms. Ivey escorts six lucky students to spend the night at the aquarium when they present their project. Ms. Ivey is described as collaborative, pleasant to work with and genuinely caring. Stay tuned for the next three teacher basket presentations!

Pedal Against Polio

Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 30 . . . and get ready to cycle! Our club will be participating in the district-wide efforts to fight polio during the month of April with our Pedal Against Polio event! Club members are asked to sponsor a bike for a few hours that day and get riders to ride . . . the more the merrier! See John Clay, Jr. for more information. Several bikes already have sponsors!

Beer Serving Opportunities Available

Yes, you read that right! We have two opportunities coming up in the next month to hone our tap skills. First up, the annual Cinco de Mayo festival sponsored by Radio Lazer on the weekend of April 30-May1. Sign up to take a slot on Saturday or Sunday, and the club will benefit from the funds raised! Not available for Cinco de Mayo? Then put the annual Strawberry Festival on your calendar, May 21-22, also in College Park. Again, easy money for the club and it’s lots of fun too!!

Golf Tournament

Tee up for the club’s annual Golf Tournament, Friday, May 13, on the Lakes course at River Ridge. See Tim Laubacher or Gary Trow to play, volunteer or sponsor. Sign up sheets circulated last week for lots of volunteer opportunities, all throughout the day. Let’s make this year’s tournament the best ever!
